the program
:: overview
Rosie’s Broadway Kids is a fifteen-week
in-school program for New York City public school
children. It consists of classes in music and
dance and provides an overview of American musical
theater. Every fifth-grade class at each participating
school meets for one hour weekly and is treated
to professional teaching artists—encompassing
dance, voice and music instruction. Each class
is accompanied by live music. In addition to
learning a special song and dance from the Broadway
repertoire, each student takes a trip to the
Great White Way to see a Broadway show. Each
school has a visiting guest artist from the
Broadway community who performs for the students
and answers questions. The semester culminates
in a performance for parents, peers, and the
community. |
